As an Engineering Manager (m/f/d) at Syde, a substantial part of your job will be ensuring engineers receive support, feedback, and guidance in their professional development and career progression.

Your responsibilities
- Line management of engineers
- Providing continuous technical expertise and guidance to your direct reports and other engineers
- Actively supporting engineers in their development and growth
- Conducting regular check-ins, 1:1 meetings, and feedback/performance reviews with your direct reports
- Gathering and providing professional feedback from their respective project teams, Project Manager, and Squad Lead
Leadership responsibilities
- You are the primary point of contact for the engineers you support regarding any needs they may have or difficulties they may be facing
- Assisting engineers in setting and achieving career and technical growth goals
- Helping address conflicts and challenges within project teams, squads, or the company
- Acting in line with our core values, creating a trusting work environment through empathy, honesty, and transparency
Optional
Beyond your main tasks, which do not account for all of your working hours, you can also contribute to other areas depending on your capacity, skills, and interests. These areas of contribution might include:
- Collaborating with Staff and Principal Engineers on technical solutions to ensure alignment with industry best practices
- Collaborate closely with Sales during early estimations, providing insights into required expertise and contributing to accurate project estimates
- Participating in the hiring process for Engineering Managers and other engineering roles
- Possible involvement in Marketing, thought leadership, blog posts, events, etc.
- Training and mentorship of engineers and other colleagues in topics of expertise
Must-haves
- Proven experience managing engineers in an international, multicultural agency context
- Broad knowledge of web development technologies/trends, particularly in WordPress development, the JavaScript ecosystem, and the LAMP/LEMP stack
- Experience in technical leadership, delivering complex web projects to clients
- Thorough knowledge of the challenges of delivering engineering projects to clients
- Experience in offering mentorship to other engineers
- Experience with gathering and delivering constructive feedback
- Ability to create strategic professional development plans
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Actively listening, growth-oriented, problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict-navigating skills
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with engineering hiring interviews and assessments
- Experience with Slack, Google Workspace, Jira, Confluence, Personio
- Experience working in a remote working environment
