Katrina Moody – Technical Writer

WordPress is not just a great community it's a family, there you have a sense of belonging. And the best part is that other people help me shine and I help them shine.

She lives near Indianapolis, Indiana.

How would you describe yourself?

I love coffee, WordPress, and being a wife and mother. I live for advocacy, especially for caregivers and families who also have kids with different diagnoses (like autism, epilepsy, and rare disease).

How do you spend your spare time?

I love reading and playing with words as a writer.

What is important to you?

The most important things in my life are my faith and family. And beyond that, helping others with the things I have learned through life. Be it through writing behind the scenes through internal documentation or writing about our family’s awesomeness (awesomeness = autism, epilepsy, rare diseases, and more). I want to always be learning and passing what I learn on to others.

Kat’s Way to Inpsyde

I’m a writer and editor with 20+ years of experience, but when I discovered WordPress over 13 years ago, it radically changed my life.

Through WordPress, I began creating websites for friends, small businesses, and brands. Because of that, I learned more about myself and just how much I enjoyed being a nerd. Digging into things, learning constantly, and growing as a person, became part of who I was.

Because of my love of WordPress, I gained my first remote position around seven years ago. Over the years, I worked as a customer support engineer, then a product support engineer, and finally, a technical writer.

I was hooked.

Working as a technical writer combined my nerdy side and my creative side. I loved digging through data, doing flowcharts, and mapping out processes. I loved writing and editing (obviously!). And I loved organizing the information we used along the way.

Today I work as a technical writer, and I feel lucky to have found something I am passionate about in the culmination of over twenty years of writing and editing. I’m not sure I would have found my way here if I hadn’t stumbled upon WordPress so long ago.

Why was Inpsyde interesting for you?

I found Inpsyde years ago when I met a peer at WordCamp US (hello, Robert!). I’ve followed the agency and enjoyed learning more about its culture and values through the years. When I looked for my next position, Inpsyde topped my list because they valued their employees. The company culture overflows to social media posts, blog posts, and every conversation I had with Inpsyders. I’m excited to join a company that loves WordPress (almost) as much as I do and values its employees and the world around them.

What do you especially like about your new job, or what are you looking forward to?

Unsurprisingly, I am most interested in auditing internal documentation and mapping out current processes. So joining as a technical writer makes me very excited! I can’t wait to dig in!

Questions to Inpsyder Kat

We asked Kat some questions, to learn more about her:

What was the last book you read?

I’ve just finished rereading Deep Work by Cal Newport right now.

What was the best advice you ever got? Who gave it to you?

Many years ago, my grandmother told me to worry about the things I could change. If I couldn’t change it, it wasn’t worth the energy. She also taught me to keep getting up when life tried to throw me for a loop.

What do you like most about your city?

I love my city because it’s a small town with big-city ideas – we have a town square but also bigger stores and factories and parks. Our town motto is “The Friendly City,” and it really is.

What is your favorite smartphone app?

Either Echo (a prayer app) or Ulysses (a writing app).

What is the best meal you can cook on your own?

Roast or chili (from tomatoes canned from my garden!)
