Thomas Weichselbaumer

How would you describe yourself?

My great passion is web development, and I’m very happy that I can turn my hobby into my profession. Creating things like a piece of software that is useful for other people is great.

I am a calm, friendly, and optimistic person.

How do you spend your time?

I stay fit and exercise regularly with three close friends. I also like to run occasionally and play tennis as part of a local team. I volunteer at our tennis club and help organize many events like tournaments or festivities.

Besides my hobbies, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family.

What is important to you?

I always want to grow as a human being, explore new things, and keep learning. I’m passionately curious about a lot of different things.

Thomas’s way to Inpsyde

I started my career with dual vocational training as a computer science expert at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. After that three-year program, I tried to start my own business. I did some client work as a PHP developer and failed my first startup.

During that time, I created a blog about web development, which initially brought me to WordPress. I tinkered with the theme and eventually created my own. I noticed people were selling themes, so I took a leap of faith and founded my theme shop in 2010.

The WordPress community kept me hooked; I have been doing that for the last 12 years. I have released countless themes and plugins and became a theme partner on WordPress.com. In the last few years, I got very involved with Gutenberg, JavaScript, and React and created many custom blocks and block themes.

After going solo for such a long time, it was time for a change of scenery and a new challenge, where I could work on more complex projects and grow further as a web developer. And I wanted to join a team again because I missed having colleagues with whom I could exchange ideas and we could learn from each other. I’m very happy and excited to get the chance to join Inpsyde and start working here.

Why was Inpsyde interesting for you?

There were a couple of things. First, the culture and working fully remotely with people worldwide appealed to me. I also wanted to stay in the WordPress space, join a highly skilled team and work on challenging projects. I think Inpsyde is the perfect place for all of these things.

What do you especially like about your new job?

I’m looking forward to meeting the team and getting to know everyone. I also like the opportunity to work on complex projects.
