I’m excited about the human-centric company values that I felt from the first contact.

In this article, we want to introduce Vladimir Shelmuk, our Developer. When Vladimir joined our agency in February 2021, we asked him a few questions to get to know him a little better.

This is Vladimir Shelmuk

Vladimir lives in Berdychiv, Ukraine.

The picture shows a collage of three pictures. The first picture shows Vladimir who is picking mushrooms. The second picture shows some bags with mushrooms in it and the third one shows him standing on a bridge in nature.

How would you describe yourself?

I am a constant self-learner and like to explore new things and to create modern web projects with state-of-the-art developing approaches. Working at Syde makes that possible for me, but also sometimes feeds my Impostor-Syndrome, as I have the ability to work with the best and most experienced developers in our branch and there is so much to learn! But as web development is always evolving that is pretty normal I guess, and it is great to have such awesome colleagues!

How do you spend your spare time?

As I have a 4 month-old daughter, besides my job and taking care of my family, I don’t have much time right now. But I enjoy having a walk in nature, that is really relaxing to me. Especially with my wife, who is really into hiking and going into the forests and enjoying nature.

Also, we bought a house a couple of years ago and I am building and renovating it. I try to do as much on my own as possible (from electricity, over water pipes to planting in the garden). That really makes me happy and proud!

The life of my family is religious. My wife and I are both Jehovah’s Witnesses and we are enjoying bringing guidance from the Bible into our life.

Vladimir’s way to Syde

I finished Pryazovskyi State Technical University in 2009 in the subject of Power-system automation and always had a great passion for software development. But my start in web development was not easy. I began with content management, HTML/CSS markup, small JS-effect, and then PHP. Also, I have some experience with the Symfony framework. WordPress is attractive for me because it has a flat learning curve but endless abilities for self-perfection. I think continuous learning is a must-have skill for developers.

In the last 5 years, I worked at a small Ukrainian-based agency but had the feeling that I want to enhance as a developer. Syde has great open source products and very experienced developers, so I wanted to work here and learn a lot of new things. At last but not least I’m excited about the human-centric company values that I felt from the first contact.
