In my free time, I like to watch football and basketball or take a walk with my wife and friends till late into the evening. I also like gaming, especially sports games like FIFA or NBA. And I have a big passion for music. I am from a musician family. So, music has a special place in my life, especially Jazz music, because my dad is playing bass-guitar in a Jazz band. In my previous company, we had a stereo system where everyone could choose some music to play. Because the others really liked my music taste, I became kind of the company DJ.

If time permits, I go traveling. It really doesn’t matter if by car, train or plane. I think it is one of the important things in life because, in this way, you can see how life is going in other countries. To see different cultures and meet people with other backgrounds gives you a very good experience in life. And besides that, you will always remember your travels. I often think back to these experiences.

The most important thing in my life is my family, especially my little son. Therefore, it is really great for me to work remotely because now I am more flexible.

Narek’s way to Syde

I wanted to become a programmer since I was a kid. So, I studied computer science at the Armenian university. After that, I worked in my friend’s startup, which was creating websites for local businesses. I have gained some experience there and went to an agency that specialized in creating WordPress themes. I have spent 6 years building the WordPress part of these themes and doing support for them.

There, a friend told me about the idea of working remotely and I decided that I wanted to try this. Then I saw the job posting by Syde. After some research about Syde, I realized that it would be a great experience for me to work here. So, Syde was my first and only choice.

Now, I am here and it is a very special opportunity and experience for me to work with such talented and kind people. I help the product team with support and development. I really like my team. The people here are very kind and helping me with onboarding and getting familiar with our products and coding styles. This is the first time for me to work outside of Armenia, but it works well. And it’s an interesting and big experience for me.

It is also great to work remotely. It simply means more freedom. But I decided against working at home and instead go to a co-working place near my house. I prefer to go outside to work. This helps me to stay focused. Besides, there are many other developers here, so I stay connected to the local community.
