Syde’s open-source and people-centric mentality made me feel right at home from the very first contact.

In this article, we want to introduce Niklas Gutberlet, our Product Owner. When Niklas joined our agency as a Support Specialist in September 2020, we asked him a few questions to get to know him a little better.

This is Niklas Gutberlet

How would you describe yourself?

I would describe myself as a patient technology geek looking to improve myself further. Ever since I got my first computer with an internet connection, I knew that this technology would have a tremendous impact on my life. The internet offers unlimited opportunities to learn so many things, and I try to constantly extend my knowledge and skills. It is also worth mentioning that I am a better listener than a talker.

How do you spend your spare time?

I spend a lot of time exploring and learning new tools and workflows for everything 3D related since visual effects have been my passion for well over a decade. During my free time, I also like to be involved in online communities by collaborating and giving tech support. So, in other words, I am browsing the web a lot! As a hobby cook, I know my way around a kitchen and try to expand my horizon by cooking something completely new every now and then. If I did not develop a passion for the digital world, I would have ended up as a chef for sure. A self-cooked meal for me is the greatest companion for watching movies or shows.

Niklas’ way to Syde

My way to Syde is pretty interesting because it wasn’t planned at all.

One day while scrolling a forum for DIY makers on the smartphone, my lovely mom accidentally slipped with her thumb on a like button of a comment and the person on the other side decided to reach out for a cooperation request because of her good reputation. After she told me about this, I did my own research and quickly found a blog post about the person. It was Alex Frison, the CEO of Syde. He seemed like a cool guy and to contrast strongly with other executives I have previously interacted with. Actually, the box “By the way: The Syde team is 100% remote” definitely caught my interest and I didn’t hesitate to apply.

This year more than any time before has shown the need for adequate remote work capabilities. While other businesses are just now trying to implement this, Sde has been doing it ever since its inception and shows that success does not require a central, analog office. I was looking for new challenges for a while and found my interests well represented with the values at Syde. Syde’s open-source and people-centric mentality made me feel right at home from the very first contact.
