Services offered:
In partnership with our long-time client PayPal, Syde delivered a seamless, intuitive, and conversion-optimized experience—setting a new benchmark for payment integrations in the WooCommerce ecosystem.
The Challenge:
Empower merchants to quickly and easily set up their WooCommerce Payment plugin
From the very start, the merchant journey has been at the heart of our process. While the previous settings interface was functional, it often left store owners feeling overwhelmed and uncertain.
Through in-depth user research and direct merchant feedback, PayPal’s design team identified key pain points and opportunities for improvement—such as streamlining the account setup and bringing clarity to feature configuration—which was tackled as part of the new design.

The Solution:
A merchant-centric redesign that’s frictionless and customer-friendly
In a world where e-commerce moves fast, merchants don’t have time to fight their tools. To address this, we introduced a modern, React-based settings dashboard that’s as visually appealing as it is easy to use. Thanks to a streamlined layout and intuitive navigation, merchants can now configure PayPal and related payment methods in just a few clicks—guided by a dedicated onboarding wizard. The onboarding wizard walks users through the setup step-by-step, enabling new stores to activate PayPal quickly.
But a great setup is only half the story—what customers see at checkout matters just as much. With the shopper experience top of mind, the appearance of PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay buttons was harmonized with the WooCommerce Cart & Checkout for a consistent and trustworthy look across all devices. Enhanced spacing, responsive layouts, and adaptive button displays—designed in accordance with European Accessibility Act guidelines—ensure that every shopper enjoys a simple, visually coherent checkout, regardless of their device or preferred payment method.

The Expected Outcome:
Faster setup, fewer support requests, more time to focus on growth
These changes are designed to deliver measurable impact. While the solution has only just been implemented, we expect to see merchant onboarding time and support tickets decrease, while adoption increases significantly—thanks to the simplified setup and intuitive controls. On the customer side, a smoother, faster checkout experience should lead to a noticeable increase in completed transactions. By reducing friction at every step, we’re helping PayPal and its customers drive more revenue through the platform.
But the value goes beyond immediate results. Our modular, future-proof approach ensures the plugin can easily adapt to new payment technologies and evolving regulatory requirements. Continuous analytics and user feedback enable us to refine the experience over time, keeping our payment plugin solution ahead of the curve.
Key Results:
Enhanced workflows, design, and architecture

- Streamlined Onboarding Flow
We introduced a guided setup wizard that breaks the onboarding process into simple, logical steps. From API credentials to payment method selection, merchants can now complete the setup quickly. - Modern UI/UX Design
The new backend dashboard features a clean, modern interface built with clarity and responsiveness in mind. We implemented collapsible sections, inline help text, and visual status indicators to reduce cognitive load and minimize support tickets. - Intuitive Settings Architecture
To improve usability at scale, we reorganized the plugin’s settings into logical tabs and sections based on real user behavior. Critical settings are surfaced more intuitively, while advanced options remain accessible but unobtrusive.
